An Executive in Cyber Defense’s primary responsibility is to detect, respond to, and mitigate active security threats to an organization’s digital infrastructure. This is a tactical, hands-on role. Even while the term “executive” frequently connotes senior leadership, in certain business settings (such as KPMG India), it refers to professionals who specialize in high-level technical execution.

Responsibilities

• Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Testing (VAPT): Conducting manual and automated security tests on web applications, mobile platforms, and IT infrastructure to identify gaps.
• Incident Response & Monitoring: Detecting and analyzing cyber incidents and unauthorized activities using SIEM and EDR tools.
• Threat Research: Investigating emerging Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), malware, and new exploitation techniques to proactively harden defenses.
• Red Teaming: Simulating real-world attacks to test the effectiveness of existing security controls.
• Stakeholder Communication: Translating technical findings into actionable remediation steps for developers and IT teams. 

Required Technical Skills

• Penetration Testing Tools: Expertise in Burp Suite, Metasploit, Kali Linux, Nessus, and SonarQube.
• Security Frameworks: Deep knowledge of OWASP Top 10, NIST, and ISO 27001.
• Infrastructure Security: Understanding of OSI and TCP/IP models, network segregation, and cloud security architecture (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Scripting: Proficiency in languages like Python, Java, or Shell for automation and custom tool development.

Required Skills:

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field.
• Certifications: Highly valued credentials include Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), OSCP, and CISSP.
