The PM Internship Scheme 2025 : The Government of India launched the PM Internship Scheme 2025 to give young professionals real-world work experience in top organizations in a range of industries. Enhancing employability and bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements are the goals of this 12-month paid internship program.

The Budget 2024-25 (Schedule) announced the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme in Top Companies. In five years, it hopes to offer internships to one crore young people in the top 500 companies. Youth will be exposed to a variety of professions and job opportunities in a real-world business setting for a full year through this program.

purpose of PM Internship Scheme 2025 :

According to this scheme, an internship is a contract between an intern and a company whereby the company gives the intern training, experience, and skills in a real-world business or organization setting. This helps the intern bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, which in turn helps to improve her or his employability.

Key Features of the PM Internship Scheme 2025:

  • Number of Positions: 1,25,000 internships across 500 top companies.
  • Duration: 12 months.
  • Stipend: ₹5,000 per month, with an additional one-time payment of ₹6,000 for incidental expenses.
  • Insurance Coverage: Interns are covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, with premiums paid by the government.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age Limit: 21 to 24 years (relaxation applicable for SC/ST/OBC candidates).
  • Educational Qualifications:
    • ITI Holders: Completed 10th standard along with an ITI certificate in a relevant trade.
    • Diploma Holders: Completed 12th standard plus a diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
    • Graduates: Bachelor’s degree from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or AICTE.
  • Income Limit: Annual family income should be below ₹8 lakh.
  • Employment Status: Applicants should not be engaged in full-time employment or enrolled in a full-time academic program. However, students pursuing online or distance learning courses are eligible to apply.
  • Exclusions: Candidates with professional degrees such as B.Tech, MBA, CA, etc., are not eligible.

Application Process:

  1. Registration: Visit the official website pminternship.mca.gov.in and click on ‘Register Now’ to create a profile by providing personal and educational details.
  2. Profile Setup: Complete your profile by adding relevant information about your academic background, skills, and interests.
  3. Apply for Internships: Browse through the available internship opportunities and apply to up to three positions that align with your qualifications and career goals.
  4. Selection Process: Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend online interviews or assessments conducted by the respective companies.
  5. Onboarding: Upon selection, complete the necessary onboarding formalities as per the company’s guidelines to commence your internship.

Important Dates:

  • Registration Start Date: 12th October 2024.
  • Last Date to Apply: 12th March 2025.
  • Internship Start Date: 2nd December 2024.

Criteria for the companies (Partner Companies) to participate

  • The top 500 companies have been identified by the Ministry on the basis of their average CSR expenditure of the last three years.
  • Apart from these, any other company/ bank/ financial institution desirous of participating in the Scheme, may do so with the approval of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), which would take a view keeping in view under represented sectors and areas in the above mentioned 500 companies.
  • In case the Partner Company cannot directly provide such internship opportunities in its
  • own company, it may tie-up with: Companies in its forward and backward supply chain (e.g. suppliers/ customers/ vendors), or; 2 Other Companies/Institutions in its Group; or otherwise.

Shortlisting and Selection:

  • A pool of candidates would be shortlisted for each internship opportunity through the Portal. The shortlisting process will be based on the
  • candidates’ preferences and the requirements posted by the companies. In the shortlisting
  • process, criteria that prioritize lower employability and ensure broader representation across
  • the applicant base will be considered.
  • The shortlisting criteria is aimed at promoting diversity and social inclusivity in the internship program. To ensure the above, the Portal will use tools
  • to give representation to all such segments of the population, such as Scheduled Castes,
  • Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes as well as Persons with Disabilities. Depending on
  • the number of offers for each internship, approximately twice /thrice as many names, along with the Resume of the candidates, will be sent to the company for selection.
  • Companies would be able to select candidates and make internship offers based on their respective selection
  • criteria and processes. Once an offer is sent by the company to the candidate, the candidate will
  • be able to convey acceptance through the Portal.
  • A Detailed Implementation Mechanism for the Pilot Project is given in Annexure-I. This mechanism would be as prescribed by this Ministry.

With Chennai and Bengaluru emerging as the top cities offering the most internship opportunities, the PM Internship Scheme is quickly gaining traction throughout India. Introduced in the FY25 budget, the program seeks to give young people practical experience in a range of industries, especially for candidates from low-income backgrounds. Supported by the government and business, the program has generated thousands of internship offers, particularly in important cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Gurugram. With Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra having the highest rates of internships, the program is putting graduates and other qualified applicants in a good position for future employment by providing them with worthwhile opportunities to experience professional settings.

Registration Steps for the PM Internship Scheme

  • Step 1: Open an internet browser and go to pminternship.mca.gov.in.
  • Step 2: Click on the ‘Register Now’ button and enter your mobile number in the ‘Register Youth’ pop-up.
  • Step 3: You’ll receive an OTP on the provided number. Enter it to generate a password for your account.
  • Step 4: Log in and immediately update your password.
  • Step 5: Create your ‘user profile’ with your details.
  • Step 6: Complete your KYC verification using either Aadhaar authentication or DigiLocker.
  • Step 7: Enter your personal, residential, and bank details to receive internship payments through DBT.
