Job Overview

The Software Engineer Intern will work alongside experienced engineers to design and develop software systems that improve Roku’s streaming platform and services. During the internship, candidates will be assigned a specific project where they will build features, improve performance, or develop internal tools.

This role provides hands-on experience with real engineering projects and exposure to modern technologies used in large-scale software development environments

Roles & Responsibilities:   

  • Work on a defined software engineering project from design to implementation.

  • Develop and maintain high-quality code for new features or improvements.

  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to build scalable solutions.

  • Participate in coding, testing, debugging, and performance optimization.

  • Contribute to front-end, backend, or embedded software development depending on the team.

  • Write technical documentation and share progress with team members.

  • Follow agile development practices, including code reviews and sprint planning.

  • Apply best practices for software testing, reliability, and performance.

Preferred skills:

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

  • Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.

  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.

  • Understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodology.

  • Basic knowledge of Linux environments or cloud platforms is a plus.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Basic understanding of programming and software development principles.

  • Academic projects or previous internship experience in software development is beneficial.

  • Interest in technologies such as cloud computing, embedded systems, or streaming platforms.
