Software Engineer- Apple Service Engineering

- 0 – 18 months of industry experience in software programming & infrastructure engineering

Service Reliability Engineer- Apple Data Platform
The Service Reliability Engineer (SRE) role in Apple Services Engineering requires a mix of strategic engineering and design along with hands-on, technical work. This SRE will configure, tune, and fix multi-tiered systems to achieve optimal application performance, stability and availability. We manage jobs as well as applications on bare-metal and cloud computing platforms to deliver data processing for many of Apple’s global products. Our teams work with exabytes of data, petabytes of memory, and tens of thousands of jobs to enable predicable and performant data analytics enabling features in Apple Music, TV+, Appstore and other world class products.
- 0-18 months of experience in a Site Reliability Engineering role.
- Understanding of SRE principles and goals.
- Good programming skills in any high level languages like Python, Go, Java.
- Familiarity with Linux environments (process management, file systems, troubleshooting) and networking fundamentals (HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP).
- Ability to analyze issues, identify root causes, and propose solutions.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to complete tasks with attention especially during incidents.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Exposure to cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
- Basic understanding or academic/project exposure to big data technologies such as Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, or Apache Flink.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Exposure to collaborative development (e.g., team projects, internships, or open-source contributions), including working with distributed teams.
- Familiarity with production support processes, incident management, and system reliability.
- Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and to orchestration systems such as Kubernetes.
- Awareness of monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.

Linux & Systems Engineer- Fleet Operations Engineering
You will deploy and maintain large fleets of Linux systems, configure and provision SAN storage infrastructure, and develop automation tooling that drives reliability and reduces toil across the organization. You’ll partner closely with developers, DBAs, network engineers, and EPMs to build the environments that make Apple’s products possible — championing self-service, security, and engineering excellence every step of the way.
- 0-18 months of Industry experience in administering systems
- Hands-on Linux systems administration experience with enterprise distributions such as RHEL, Oracle Linux, or CentOS
- Proficiency in Bash shell scripting for automation, task management, and system operations
- Solid understanding of Linux fundamentals: file systems, process management, user and group administration, and package management
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, Go, Ruby, Swift, or Java
- Working knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic firewall configuration, as they relate to storage and systems infrastructure
- Familiarity with Oracle software stack and/or NoSQL databases
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
