JOB DESCRIPTION
The Junior Data Engineer will support day-to-day monitoring, first-level checks, basic troubleshooting, data validation, ticket updates, and documentation activities for data engineering pipelines and applications. This role requires a basic understanding of SQL, data engineering concepts, ETL/ELT processes, monitoring, incident management, and production support. The resource will work under the supervision of intermediate and senior engineers.
To create frameworks that prepare data for use by data scientists, data engineers use a variety of tools and methods. Among the most popular coding languages used by data engineers are Python, Java, R, and C++.
Responsibilities
- Monitor scheduled data pipeline runs, job status, alerts, file arrivals, and data refresh activities.
- Perform first-level checks for failed jobs, missing files, incomplete loads, data mismatch, and alert notifications.
- Create, update, and track incidents, service requests, tasks, and change requests in ServiceNow.
- Run basic SQL queries, perform data checks, validate job outputs, and support source-to-target reconciliation.
- Collect logs, screenshots, error messages, and supporting details before escalating complex issues to senior resources.
- Assist with documentation, runbooks, SOPs, operational checklists, daily status updates, and knowledge transfer activities.
- Support routine production support tasks, monitoring reports, and operational reporting under guidance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in data engineering, big data analytics, computer engineering, or related field.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
- Proven experience as a data engineer, software developer, or similar.
- Expert proficiency in Python, C++, Java, R, and SQL.
- Familiarity with Hadoop or suitable equivalent.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A knack for independence and group work.
- Scrupulous approach to duties.
- Capacity to successfully manage a pipeline of duties with minimal supervision.
