Job Description :
A Dispute Resolution Officer (DRO) examines, negotiates, and resolves disputes between parties, frequently focusing on finance, family law, or consumer complaints. They use mediation and conciliation strategies to obtain binding or nonbinding agreements, avoiding court action. High-level communication, critical thinking, and objectivity are all essential qualities.
Core Responsibilities
- Case Management: Manage high-volume caseloads from intake to resolution, ensuring accurate documentation in systems.
- Investigation & Analysis: Research disputes, review documents, and interview parties to understand issues.
- Conciliation/Mediation: Facilitate meetings to help parties reach mutually agreeable solutions.
- Decision-Making: In some sectors (e.g., family law), DROs make recommendations or final orders (like “motions to change”) that act as an alternative to a judge.
- Compliance: Ensure resolutions comply with company policy, legal standards, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience in case management, mediation, or legal investigation.
- Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication, negotiation skills, and ability to work under pressure.
- Background: Often requires a legal background (especially for court-based roles) or customer-focused, specialized industry training
