HSBC Recruitment Process Overview

HSBC recruitment generally has 3 to 4 rounds, depending on the role:

  1. Online Assessment / Aptitude Test – Often the first step.
  2. Technical / Domain Assessment – For IT, operations, or analyst roles.
  3. Situational Judgment Test (SJT) – Optional, for some customer-facing roles.
  4. HR Interview / Personal Interview – Final round to assess personality and cultural fit.

1. Online Assessment / Aptitude Test

Duration: 60–75 minutes
Mode: Online, usually MCQs

2. Technical / Domain Assessment (Role-Specific)

Duration: 30–45 minutes
For IT/Banking/Operations roles:

For IT/Technical Roles:

  • Basic Computer Fundamentals: OS, Hardware, Software
  • Networking Basics: IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, TCP/IP
  • SQL / Database Basics: Queries, Joins, ACID properties
  • Programming / Scripting Basics (if role requires coding)
  • Troubleshooting Scenarios: Windows/Linux problems

For Banking/Operations Roles:

  • Banking concepts: Savings, Current accounts, NEFT, RTGS, SWIFT
  • Financial statements and accounting basics
  • Regulatory guidelines: KYC, AML, RBI regulations
  • Problem-solving for operational scenarios

3. Situational Judgment Test (SJT)

Optional in some HSBC recruitment drives.

  • Scenario-based questions to check decision-making, ethical judgment, and behavioral approach.
  • Example: “A client is frustrated due to delay; how do you handle the situation?”

Scoring: Based on the most appropriate professional and customer-oriented response.


4. HR / Personal Interview

Duration: 20–40 minutes
Focus: Assess personality, communication, cultural fit, motivation, and career goals.
