Cognizant Interview Experiences — Round-Wise

GenC (Freshers)

Experience 1:


“My name is Akshay and Cognizant came to my college for campus recruitment. The process was conducted online and consisted of 3 rounds.”

Round 1 — Aptitude Test:

  • It included quantitative reasoning, logical reasoning, and verbal ability.
  • Questions were moderate, like probability, percentages, blood relations, puzzles, and grammar.

Round 2 — Technical Interview:

  • They asked basic programming and OOP questions.
  • Example questions: “Difference between Array and Linked List,” “Write a program to reverse a string.”
  • They also asked about my projects and any coding I had done during college.

Round 3 — HR Interview:

  • Questions about strengths, weaknesses, hobbies, and teamwork.
  • Example: “Tell me about yourself,” “Why do you want to join Cognizant?”
  • Tip: Explain your projects clearly, stay confident, and be honest in answers.

Experience 2:

“My name is Preeti and I appeared for Cognizant’s online GenC interview.” , It is much easy level interview , i have been prepared alot for this but interviewer asked very simple questiuons .

Round 1 — Technical Test:

  • Focused on data structures basics and simple programming logic.
  • Example questions: “Explain stack and queue,” “Write a recursive program to find factorial.”

Round 2 — HR Interview:

  • Behavioral questions like: “How do you handle teamwork?” and “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”
  • They also asked me to describe my academic projects in detail.
  • Tip: Be confident, speak clearly, and know your projects inside out.

GenC Elevate

Experience 1:

“My name is Divyashu and Cognizant conducted an online GenC Elevate recruitment process at my college in 2023 , I applied through the cognizant Careers website. As we all know, cognizant is a top service-based company, and getting selected is quite challenging. Through my experience, you will understand what happens in each round. There were a total of four rounds:

Round 1 — Coding Test:

  • One medium-level problem on arrays or strings.
  • Example: “Find the second largest element in an array.”

Round 2 — Technical Interview:

  • Focused on OOP concepts, SQL basics, and REST API understanding.
  • Questions: “Explain polymorphism” and “Describe your project contribution.”

Round 3 — HR Interview:

  • Behavioral and situational questions like:
    • “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”
    • “How do you prioritize tasks?”
  • Tip: Prepare small projects, coding, and basic database concepts well.

Experience 2:

Round 1 — Aptitude Test:

  • Moderate level quant, reasoning, and verbal questions.

Round 2 — Technical Interview:

  • Focused on coding, project discussion, and API basics.
  • Examples: “Write SQL query to fetch top 3 salaries,” “Explain MVC pattern in your project.”

Round 3 — HR Interview:

  • Behavioral questions: teamwork, conflict handling, personal strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Tip: Be able to explain projects clearly and showcase problem-solving skills.

GenC Pro

Experience 1:

“My name is Roshni and Cognizant conducted the GenC Pro recruitment online at my college.”

Round 1 — Technical Interview 1:

  • Coding questions and OOP-based questions.
  • Examples:
    • “Design a small REST API endpoint.”
    • “Sort an array of objects based on a property.”

Round 2 — Technical Interview 2:

  • Project discussion and scenario-based questions.
  • Example: “Explain how you optimized your project performance.”

Round 3 — HR Interview:

  • Questions about deadlines, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
  • Tip: Demonstrate hands-on development experience and problem-solving clearly.

Experience 2:

I was recently selected by cognizant through an on-campus recruitment drive, and I want to share my complete interview journey.

Our placement officer informed us about the opportunity. Only students with a CGPA of 8 or above and no active backlogs were eligible to apply.


Round 1 — Technical Interview 1:

  • Coding and OOP questions.
  • Example: Implement classes with inheritance and write efficient code.

Round 2 — Technical Interview 2:

  • Scenario-based/project questions, debugging questions.
  • Example: Optimize API performance or database queries in your project.

Round 3 — HR Interview:

  • Behavioral questions about learning attitude, teamwork, and career goals.
  • Tip: Be confident, explain your projects and coding experience clearly.

GenC Next

Experience 1

Round 1 — Technical Interview 1:

My name is Prakash, and I’m sharing my interview experience for the Genc next role. I found the opening on the cognizant Careers page and applied through the link. I honestly didn’t expect a response, but I did receive a callback.

  • DSA questions: arrays, linked lists, recursion.
  • Example: “Find the longest substring without repeating characters.”

Round 2 — Technical Interview 2 (System Design & Specialization):

  • System design: design a URL shortener, chat application, or scalable API.
  • Domain specialization: cloud computing, AI, or backend questions.
  • Example: “How would you design a chat system with real-time updates?”

Round 3 — HR Interview:

  • Leadership and behavioral questions.
  • Examples: “How do you mentor juniors?” “How do you handle project ambiguity?”
  • Tip: Strong preparation in DSA, system design, and domain expertise is essential.

After some time, I applied for the Genc next through the cognizant Careers website.

Round 1 — DSA Coding Round:

  • Medium to hard coding problems.
  • Example: “Reverse a linked list in groups of k.”

Round 2 — System Design & Specialization Round:

  • Design questions for scalable systems.
  • Example: “Design a URL shortening service with minimal latency.”
  • Specialization questions in your domain (AI, cloud, backend, etc.)

Round 3 — HR Interview:

  • Behavioral and leadership questions.
  • Examples: “How do you handle stress?” “Explain a time when you led a project.”
  • Tip: Explain your thought process clearly, focus on scalability, and communicate solutions effectively.
