HCL Interview Experience

Experience 1

My name is Vignesh, and I am excited to share my HCL interview experience with you all. I hope it helps in your preparation. The recruitment process consisted of three rounds:

  1. Cognitive Aptitude
  2. Technical Interview
  3. HR Interview

This was an On-Campus drive. I prepared using the Prime course, which I found extremely helpful because it covers the most frequently asked technical and HR questions, making the entire interview process much easier.

Round 1: Cognitive Aptitude
The first round was the aptitude test, which had four sections:

  • Quantitative/Numerical Ability – 15 questions
  • Logical Reasoning – 15 questions
  • Verbal Ability – 15 questions
  • Computer Fundamentals – 30 questions

Thanks to practicing several mock tests from PrepInsta, I felt confident about clearing this round.

Round 2: Technical Interview
In the second round, the interviewer focused entirely on technical questions, mostly based on my resume. I suggest mentioning only the skills you are confident in. The interviewer began by introducing himself and then asked the following:

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Tell me about your internship.
  • What tasks did you handle during your internship?
  • Difference between current and voltage.
  • Explain a diode, its types, and applications.
  • Draw frequency responses of LPF, HPF, BPF, and BSF.
  • What is a precision rectifier?
  • Difference between Thevenin and Norton Theorem.
  • Give real-life examples of singly-linked and doubly-linked lists.
  • Write a program to check a palindrome.

Being from an ECE background, I was asked questions related to my core subjects. I answered all questions confidently, which helped me move to the next round.

Round 3: HR Interview
Three days later, I received an invitation for the HR interview. The interviewer started by introducing herself and asking my name. Some of the questions included:

  • Why should we hire you?
  • What are your career goals?
  • How do you feel about working nights or weekends?
  • Are you willing to sign a bond?

The interviewer assessed my fundamentals as well as communication skills. I answered all questions politely, clearly, and confidently, which helped me clear the round. A week later, I received the selection email, marking the end of my successful interview journey.

Experience 2

I recently applied for HCL through PrepInsta’s website. I learned about the HCL drive via PrepInsta’s Instagram page. I prepared for all the rounds using PrepInsta’s materials, which included previous year questions and answers, and it helped me successfully clear the first round.

Round 1: Cognitive Aptitude

The first round was an aptitude test with four sections, and we had 75 minutes to complete it. The sections included:

  • Quantitative/Numerical Ability – 15 questions
  • Logical Reasoning – 15 questions
  • Verbal Ability – 15 questions
  • Computer Fundamentals – 30 questions

The questions were of moderate difficulty — not too easy, but manageable with enough practice.

The coding section had two questions, one easy and one medium. I successfully solved both. After four days, I received an email confirming that I had cleared the first round and was shortlisted for the technical interview.

Round 2: Technical Interview

This round was mainly a resume-based interview, focusing on the projects I had done during my final term internship and the ones listed in my resume. Some of the questions asked were:

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • What is a mirage?
  • What is Total Internal Reflection?
  • Some math puzzles.
  • Which programming language are you familiar with? (I answered Python)
  • Write code to check whether a character is an alphabet.
  • List different storage class specifiers in C.
  • Explain the necessity and advantages of OOPS.
  • Questions about my project: technologies used, reason for choosing the project, whether it was a team project, and other related queries.

The interviewer mainly focused on the details mentioned in my resume. I was able to answer all the questions correctly and cleared this round as well.

Round 3: HR Interview

The HR round was the most comfortable and relaxed. The questions were mostly personal, such as:

  • Self-introduction
  • Future goals
  • Family background
  • Professional strengths

After this round, I received my offer letter within a week.

Experience 3

I applied for the Graduate Engineer Trainee position at HCLTech and successfully cleared three rounds of evaluation:

  1. Cognitive Aptitude
  2. Technical Interview
  3. HR Interview

Round 1: Cognitive Aptitude
The first round was an online assessment consisting of 75 questions to be completed in 75 minutes. The test had four sections:

  • Quantitative/Numerical Ability – 15 questions
  • Logical Reasoning – 15 questions
  • Verbal Ability – 15 questions
  • Computer Fundamentals – 30 questions

There was no negative marking in this round, which made it easier to attempt all questions without stress.

Round 2: Technical Interview
The second round was a technical interview, primarily focused on the skills and technologies listed in my resume. The interviewer asked questions such as:

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Explain Polymorphism in Java.
  • Discuss the main method in Java.
  • What is method overloading?
  • What are static methods in Java?

Overall, the HR interview experience was comfortable and positive, and the process concluded successfully.

Experience 5

I recently appeared for an HCL Graduate Trainee interview, which included three rounds: Assessment, Technical Interview, and HR Interview. This off-campus opportunity started with my application through the HCL portal, and I received the Assessment Round invitation within 10 days.

Round 1: Cognitive Aptitude
The assessment had five sections:

  • Verbal Ability
  • Quantitative Ability
  • Logical Ability
  • IT Fundamentals (Networking and OS)

The duration was 75 minutes with around 75 questions of easy to medium difficulty. The test was manageable with basic knowledge of OS, Networking, Aptitude, and at least one programming language. After successfully completing this round, I received the Technical Interview call within a week.

Round 2: Technical Interview
The technical interview lasted approximately 30 minutes and focused on programming fundamentals, SQL, and Networking. I was asked to write a simple code snippet and solve a coding problem while explaining my approach. The interviewer also inquired about my project work and the technologies I used. The session was friendly and encouraging, and I received confirmation of clearing this round within two days.

Round 3: HR Interview
The final HR round was an interactive discussion about my strengths, weaknesses, and career motivations. The interviewer shared insights about HCL’s work culture and environment. Key questions included my knowledge of the company and reasons for wanting to join. The conversation was professional yet welcoming, making it easier to communicate effectively.

Overall, my HCL interview experience was positive. The interviewers were knowledgeable and approachable, creating a comfortable environment to discuss both technical and professional skills, which ultimately led to my selection.
