Infosys Notice Period Overview

Infosys, like many large IT companies in India, has a structured notice period policy for employees resigning or transferring. The notice period depends on the role, level, employment type, and location.

1. Typical Notice Period

Note: The notice period may vary slightly depending on client projects or contractual obligations.

2. Types of Notice Period

  1. Standard Notice Period: Employee serves the full duration (e.g., 2–3 months) while transitioning work.
  2. Buyout / Shortened Notice Period: Employee can request to reduce the notice period by paying a notice period buyout fee or getting approval from HR and project managers.
  3. Immediate Release: Rare, only with mutual agreement between employee, HR, and project/client.

3. Notice Period Clauses

  • During Probation: Usually 1 month notice or as per the probation agreement.
  • After Confirmation: Standard notice period applies (2–3 months for most roles).
  • Client Projects: If you are on a client project, Infosys may require handover completion before release.

4. Implications of Notice Period

  • Salary Deduction: If you leave without serving the notice period or paying the buyout, Infosys may deduct pay equivalent to the unserved notice period.
  • Experience Certificate / Relieving Letter: Full notice period completion is usually required to get formal relieving letter and experience certificate.
  • Non-Compete / NDAs: Some roles, especially for client-sensitive projects, may have additional contractual clauses.

5. Notice Period Buyout

  • Employees can request notice period buyout, especially for faster joining in another company.
  • Buyout amount = usually salary equivalent of unserved months, subject to approval.
  • Not all requests are approved; depends on project obligations.

6. Serving Notice Period

  • Employees are expected to:
    • Complete handover of responsibilities
    • Document projects and tasks
    • Assist in knowledge transfer to replacement or team
    • Maintain professional conduct throughout notice period

7. Special Considerations

  • Lateral Hires: Negotiable notice periods depending on notice served at current employer.
  • Fresher Joining / Off-Campus Recruits: Typically 2 months notice after confirmation, sometimes less if mutually agreed.
  • Project-Critical Employees: Notice period might be extended to 3–6 months to ensure smooth transition.
